US Export-Import Bank: Renewable Energy & Environmental Program
|
The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) is the
official export credit agency of the United States federal government.
It was established in 1934 for the purposes of financing and insuring
foreign purchases of United States goods and services to foreign buyers.
In 2010, the Bank launched the Renewable Energy & Environmental
Finance practice, a dedicated group to oversee credit underwriting in
the related fields. Since then, the group has financed solar, wind,
gasificiation and other such projects around the world, most notably to
project developers and other such buyers of US goods throughout Europe,
Latin America and Asia. In fiscal year 2011, the Bank authorized almost
$750 million of renewable energy loans, of which approximately $600
million was for solar projects.
Due to the popular growth of Ex-Im activities in this field, the
Bank launched initiatives to meet the increased demand for financing
small solar-power transactions. Under this program, called “Renewable
Energy Express”, the Bank will be able to consider financing for small
solar and wind power producers seeking loans of $3 million to $10
million.
More about the Renewable Energy & Environmental Program will be
presented by Timothy C. Kim during the session EE & RES Financing
on the 8th Congress for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for South-East Europe.
