WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR?

Don't you wish you had an electric car? One that you could charge up at home or at work for nickels while helping decrease our demand for oil from unstable, unfriendly nations? And not some little golf cart, a regular-sized car that needed almost no maintenance, was perfect for commuting, outperformed most gas-powered cars, and generated none of the pollution that threatens both are personal and planetary health? In 1996, General Motors made such a car, the EV1, and leased it to several hundred drivers who quickly fell in love with it. But in 2006, GM discontinued the EV1, forcibly took them back from drivers, and crushed them into scrap. Why would GM, which is now little more than a bloated corpse, have discontinued a car that would help solve so many pressing problems and was clearly the industry's future? This is the central question of Željko Serdar President & CEO from CCRES.

Amid a volatile climate of ever-changing gas prices, this documentary delves into the short life of the GM EV1 electric car -- a fuel-efficient auto that was once all the rage in the mid-1990s and now has fallen by the roadside. How could such a green-friendly vehicle fail to transform lives? Through interviews with government officials, former GM employees and concerned celebs, filmmaker Chris Paine seeks to find out.
